Jerry Hill State Attorney 10th Judicial Circuit
Jerry Hill is a lifelong resident of Polk County, Florida. He attended local schools in Winter Haven and graduated from Polk Community College and Florida State University. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in 1969. In 1972, he received his Juris Doctorate Degree from Stetson Law School.
Mr. Hill started his law career as a full-time Assistant Public Defender.
In 1973, he joined the law firm of Billings, Fredrick, Wooten and
Honeywell in Orlando and specialized in personal injury work. He returned
to Polk County and established his own practice in 1974. In 1981,
he took office as the Public Defender for the Tenth Judicial Circuit
of Florida, which included, Polk, Hardee and Highlands Counties. In
1984, he was elected State Attorney for the Tenth Judicial Circuit
and was re-elected without opposition in 1988, 1992, 1996 and 2000.
He is past President of the Florida Prosecuting Attorneys Association
and he has also served on the Article V Constitutional Review Commission,
the Florida Medical Examiners Commission, the Tenth Judicial Circuit
Grievance Committee and the Second District Court of Appeal Judicial
Nominating Commission. He currently is a member of the governing board
of the Justice Administration Commission and the Violent Crime and
Drug Control Council.
